Sedation Dentistry Options For Kids In Louisville, CO
Creating Comfortable Experiences for Every Child
At Mini Miners Pediatric Dentistry, we recognize that visiting the dentist can feel overwhelming for some children.
That's why we provide multiple sedation levels to ensure dental treatments remain comfortable and anxiety-free for every young patient, including kids experiencing dental fear, those with special healthcare needs, or children requiring comprehensive dental work.
Our Three Tiers of Pediatric Sedation
Mini Miners provides three sedation tiers, each tailored to address varying comfort needs:
Gentle Sedation: Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
What it is:
An odorless gas combined with oxygen that promotes relaxation in children.
When We Use It:
For kids with minor nervousness or during straightforward procedures to maintain calmness.
What to Expect:
Your child selects their preferred "flavor" from a menu—options like bubble gum or mango. We'll guide them to breathe through their nose while enjoying a movie. Your child stays awake and responsive. They might feel slightly drowsy and giggly during administration.
Recovery:
Effects dissipate quickly following treatment. Your child can resume school or regular activities right away.

The bubble gum flavored gas helps me feel less anxious about having my tooth decay treated.

Moderate Sedation: Oral Conscious Sedation
What It Is:
A blend of two medications (Versed and Hydroxyzine) in liquid formula that promotes relaxation and drowsiness while reliably producing amnesia.
When We Use It:
For nervous children, extended procedures, or kids who need more than nitrous oxide alone.
What to Expect:
Your child consumes the liquid medication, then watches a movie. Shortly after, they'll remain awake but become increasingly sleepy. It creates an amnesic response, meaning kids often can't recall their appointment details.
Recovery:
The medications require several hours to completely metabolize. Children must rest under adult supervision for the day's remainder.
Deep Sedation: General Anesthesia
What It Is:
A board-certified anesthesiologist administers anesthesia via gas and IV to achieve complete unconsciousness and pain elimination.
When We Use It:
For children with special needs, severe anxiety, and substantial dental work to ensure zero pain or discomfort throughout the procedure.
What to Expect:
An anesthesiologist evaluates your child's vital signs before administering anesthesia. Your child watches a movie while breathing anesthesia through a mask. Once asleep, parents transition to the waiting area. An anesthesiologist places an IV and continuously monitors vitals during the dental procedure. Your child remains fully asleep and unaware throughout treatment. Post-procedure, parents enter the recovery area before your child awakens to provide your reassuring presence. Upon waking, they'll feel drowsy and possibly disoriented following the procedure.
Recovery:
The anesthesia requires several hours to fully dissipate. Children must rest under adult supervision in the same space for the day's remainder.

Our Anesthesiology Partners
We collaborate with two respected local anesthesiology practices to deliver safe, high-quality anesthesia within our dental facility:
Billing for General Anesthesia
You'll receive separate billing from the anesthesiologist and Mini Miners. The anesthesiologists operate outside insurance networks. Parents may file insurance claims independently, but we suggest verifying coverage beforehand.
